Boxer Patrick Day has died aged 27 – four days after suffering head injuries.
After he had been knocked out in the round of his superb welterweight bout in 30, the American was set in a coma having a brain injury on Saturday.
Promoter Lou DiBella affirmed Day had died on Wednesday”surrounded by his loved ones, close relatives and friends of the boxing team”.
“He had been a young child, brother, and decent friend to many,” said a statement.
“Pat’s kindness, kindness, and generosity of soul made a lasting impression with everyone that he met.”
Day has been shot over Chazz Witherspoon at the US following the Decision of the fight on the undercard of the heavyweight victory of Oleksandr Usyk from the ring on a stretcher.
“Patrick Day did not have to box,” the statement from DiBella Entertainment continued. “He came from a fantastic family, he had been intelligent, educated, had good worth and had other avenues open for him to make a living.
“He opted to box, knowing the inherent dangers which every fighter faces if he or she walks right into a boxing ring. Boxing is what Pat loved to perform. It’s the way he inspired individuals and it had been something that made him feel alive”
Fellow American Conwell, 21, ” wrote an emotional letter.
“I never meant this to occur to you, all I wanted to do was win,” he explained.
“If I could take it back, then I would. No-one accomplishes this to happen to them”
Day won 17 of his 22 struggles, together with one draw and four defeats.
Back in July, Russia’s Maxim Dadashev and also the Hugo Santillan of Argentina both died following injuries.
“It becomes very difficult to clarify or warrant the dangers of boxing at a time in this way,” the statement continued.
“This isn’t a time where edicts or pronouncements are appropriate, or so the answers are readily available. It is a time for a call to action.
“While we do not have the answers, we certainly know a number of the questions, have the ability to answer themand have the chance to react responsibly and consequently and also make boxing safer for those who participate.
“This can be a way we can honor the legacy of Pat Day. Folks live more than Patrick’s 27 decades, wondering if they positively affected their world or decided. This wasn’t the case for Patrick Day when he left us”
