Diego Maradona was appointed head coach of Argentinian club Gimnasia to get a contract.
The appointment sees the 58-year-old return to work since 2010 in his homeland for the first time, if he abandoned his role as supervisor of the national group.
In a short statement, Gimnasia said:”Star of world football, Diego Armando Maradona, is now signed his name and also is the new coach of Gimnasia. The deal runs until the end of the current year”
Gimnasia are now bottom of Argentina’s Primera Division after picking up just 1 point.
Maradona, who assisted Argentina at the 1986 World Cup, was most recently head trainer at club Dorados of Sinaloa.
He led them to the play-offs but stepped in June, citing the need for surgeries on shoulder and his knee.
