Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte will be out until January or even February, states manager Pep Guardiola.
The France centre-back, 25, has had surgery in his knee after being carried off in the win over Brighton on 31.
He ruined lateral meniscus and his ribs with Brighton defender Adam Webster at a struggle.
On Laporte’s absence, Guardiola said:”Not long. Five weeks past six months – next year, January or February.”
The defender made 35 league appearances this past year, using Bernardo Silva the City outfield player that was sole to perform with more.
His injury renders City with just Nicolas Otamendi and John Stones after Vincent Kompany’s departure, as defenders to become player-manager of Anderlecht in the Summertime.
Stones can play at Norwich City on Saturday in the 17:30 BST kick-off and Guardiola explained that the England centre-back”trained good”.
Meanwhile, Guardiola says his club’s proposal for the Premier League to get different deadlines for domestic and international transports is”a fantastic idea”.
Clubs, including City, were unhappy at the rest of Europe and the gap between the move window closing, believing rival clubs were offered an unfair advantage by it.
In their meeting in London on Thursday, Premier League bosses discussed as has become the case for the previous two seasons, to revert back as opposed to shutting the window onto the Thursday prior to the start of the year.
City put forward a compromise option, together with the deadline remaining as it’s for transports within England, but making clubs free to sign players from elsewhere in Europe for the rest of August.
Guardiola said:”This is a fantastic idea.
“I want to complete the window that the day before we begin the season. Each of the managers would want to start with the players we are likely to work with. Three weeks but another clubs have. Maybe that’s a solution.”
