Surrey Storm director Mikki Austin discusses challenges of leading franchise and playing at same time

Back in August 2018, Mikki Austin was declared as the manager of netball of Surrey Storm and that she promptly took on the significant task of enjoying for it in precisely the moment and leading a franchise.
The player entered her manager of character with pedigree in Surrey Storm. She was part of this back title winning group at 2016 and 2015 and has been an winner of the lovers Player of the trophy.
Also the 26-year-old admits that year was not easy although running a Storm academy hub along with a training role in Putney High School laid foundations for Growing upward.
Last year for all kinds of different reasons was really hard, Austin told Sky Sports.
Ill be very honest. Everyone says that is your dream job and do not get me wrong, its – that I am so blessed and so blessed for to say that I have this opportunity to do exactly what I do – but theres not anything that can prepare one for this task aside from just doing it along with trial and error.
Now that Ive got a year under my belt, I feel a lot more prepared for what is to come for the rollercoaster that is Superleague. But I am 26 and Ive worked difficult for the vast majority of my career to place myself in a situation where I am an athlete. I still have that mentality.
First and foremost I am a netballer. I am a player and thats what I wish to do. I am really fortunate that Im encouraged by an organisation a franchise at the University of Surrey I doing both roles.
After earning six victories from their 18 league fixtures surrey Storm finished last season and Austin admits that the period was a challenge.
To be really honest I came to this job last year really late. Likely a lot later than anybody needed to develop into a job in this way, so you are fighting fires and seeking to get things and setting them up if this makes sense. That was a stressful period.
I always knew this time was going to be completely different obviously because I had much more time.
I believe as last year was so stressful, as soon as that Grand Final was completed, it wasRight, all things go in prep for next year and lets get as much done as physically possible in May, June and July so when it regards devoting period in September, all we need to focus on is your playing component. I believe that was super smart
Preparations and austins attention mean that she has her group. It is some fresh additions in places that are key and a squad thats made up of 70 per cent of returnees.
Austin believes the new developments willpay real dividends and additionally comprise Northern Ireland global Niamh Cooper and Leah Middleton in Queensland Firebirds.
Yasmin Hodge-England, the franchises appearance manufacturer, Katy Hughes and Yaz Parsons also have returned.
Austin will continue to announce the remainder of Storms 15-player squad .
The British Fast5 Netball All-Stars Championship, that is live on Sky Sports on October 12, will be our first chance to observe some of them in action.
I love this job and I totally understand how much of an opportunity I have which is actually uncommon, Austin added. I definitely do not take this for granted regardless of how stressful it might appear.
Ive always wanted this opportunity and Ill take each day as it comes. We have goals and ambitions for Fast5 and past that which we would like to achieve in Vitality Netball Superleague in 2020, so I will do what I could for us because a playing team to achieve that.
