Cubs vs. Pirates MLB Pick – August 18th

It was terrifying at the 8th and 9th inning for the Chicago Cubs yesterday afternoon, however, the bullpen ultimately got the work completed to secure a 2-0 success. The Cubs managed to dismiss what seemed like a lead, the night before. But a similar fate wasnt going to happen again to the Cubs. Tyler Chatwood and Rowan Wick combined to pitch three innings, allowing no runs and no hits. The only mistake was Tyler Chatwood.
Chatwood has evolved the Cubs have within their bullpen. Joe Maddon has not been using him often turning into his relievers rather than Chatwood, who has primarily been employed as a rookie in his profession. One of the problems with turning to Chatwood often is the quantity of work he gets from the bullpen.
If items are rolling, he is generally eclipsing 3 innings on the bulge, so that chooses him from the equation for the moment. Maddon has been careful to maintain his arm down the stretch for the most significant period of their regular season. After blowing what should happen to be a win on Friday night, the Cubs needed to go to Chatwood to find a few of their mojo back from the clubhouse.
Jon Lester ought to find some recognition in this area as well. Lester went through conflicts, but seems to be back to the track. If they would like to be playing in October, the Cubs will want him down the stretch. Lester was eloquent in 6 innings, having allowed just 4 hits and no runs. Tonight wills turn into Jose Quintana, while the Pirates will proceed with Mitch Keller on Sunday Night Baseball. Head below to our complimentary Cubs vs. Pirates pick.

This day, mitch Keller will make only his fifth important league start and it comes in primetime on Sunday Night Baseball. The newcomer has become some valuable experience up with the Pirates at the big leagues. It has been a beginning to his profession, using a few that went well plus a couple of outings that are horrible. His best effort came from his most recent outing, as he was sharp with just 1 earned run allowed in 5 innings against the Angels at Anaheim.
In his outing, Keller surrendered 4 hits and 2 earned runs to the Tigers at home. The Tigers have one of the worst offenses in baseball, and that could have been a result of playing with a team that is poor. Keller was abysmal against the Braves and Reds in his two excursions, permitting 12 earned runs in seven innings of work.
Luckily he managed to bring down his numbers against the Tigers and the Angels, however, the damage was done. Keller heads into Sunday night by an ERA of both 7.94 and 2.00 WHIP. In case tonight proves to be a success night in the workplace, Hed find a huge rush of confidence. I am not so sure that he gets out of the one with a stat line. The Cubs slept yesterday afternoon and holding down them like that is going to be tough to the Pirates.
The Pirates get a date. Hes been throwing extremely well. The Athletics and Phillies scored only two runs Quintana throughout 13 innings of play in total. Quintana goes to this one with the amazing 1.89 ERA and also 0.79 WHIP in his previous three outings.
Its also been five trips since hes allowed more than 3 runs in 3 or less runs in seven of his past eight appearences and a start. The Pirates are hitting on just .202 with 3 home runs hit from Quintana. The Cubs have had their struggles on the road in 2019, but look for them to wrap this up road trip.
