2019 Belmont Stakes odds and picks: Preakness winner War of Will, Tacitus headline field

There’s not any Triple Crown on the line for Saturday’s Grade 1, $1.5 million Belmont Stakes, but War of Will could eventually become the 12th horse in history to get rid of the Kentucky Derby and return and win the Preakness and Belmont Stakes. He will vie for favoritism with Tacitus, who ran third in the Derby.
A field of 10 is slated to compete at the 1 1/2-shuttle at Belmont Park, and short period is set for 5:38 p.m. CT..
The Belmont Stakes will be televised live on NBC in a broadcast that runs from 3-6 p.m. CT and will be race No. 11 about the 13-race app.
Let’s fulfill the field.
2019 Belmont Stakes chances, trainers, jockeys, records
1) JOEVIA
Morning-line odds: 30/1
Trainer: Greg Sacco
Jockey: Jose Lezcano
Record: 5 begins (2-2-0)
Earnings: $131,600
His final outing made a 2??3/4-length victory in the Long Branch Stakes at Monmouth Park on May 12, but his last win before that occurred back in July. There’s no doubt that this fellow has speed, but it is the inexpensive kind, and he will hit the wall with a thud until he reaches the far turn.
2) EVERFAST
Morning-line odds: 12/1
Trainer: Dale Romans
Jockey: Luis Saez
Record: 11 starts (1-2-1)
Earnings: $464,805
His relations included him as a last-minute player in the Preakness and were rewarded with a good second-place campaign behind War of Will at odds of 29/1. But he dropped his three earlier trips with a joint 43??3/4 lengths, and in 11 starts, his sole win came from his introduction in August. He could pop up with a flashy effort as he is performed on occasion, but that I would not bet on it.
3) MASTER FENCER
Morning-line odds: 8/1
Trainer: Koichi Tsunoda
Jockey: Julian Leparoux
Record: 7 begins (2-2-0)
Earnings: $234,392
Outran his 58/1 chances from the Kentucky Derby and shut with a flurry to complete seventh, a mere four crosses behind Maximum Security in his first race outside Japan. He made up a whole lot of floor coming from last place on a sloppy trail that afternoon at Churchill Downs and revealed great courage. He is effective at catching a little slice here having a fantastic work.
4) TAX
Morning-line chances: 15/1
Trainer: Danny Gargan
Jockey: Irad Ortiz Jr..
Record: 6 begins (2-2-1)
Earnings: $326,300
This guy threw from the very first clunker of his career in the Kentucky Derby, ending 15th, some 15 lengths behind Maximum Security. Formerly, the colt had never been worse than third in five starts, including a fantastic moment in the Wood Memorial and a success in the Withers. Obviously, he simply didn’t care for the crowded and muddy Churchill surface on Derby Day, and he lands in a nice spot here. Legislation is a long shot with a shooter and is extremely playable today.
5) BOURBON WAR
Chances: 12/1
Trainer: Mark Hennig
Jockey: Mike Smith
Record: 6 begins (2-1-0)
Earnings: $33,683
He conducted a disappointing eighth at the Preakness, 9 1/2 lengths behind War Will, and didn’t fare much better in his previous start at the Florida Derby. He’ll be shedding the blinkers that were added in his last race (no help) and picks up the riding services of Mike Smith, but he is not a triumph candidate in my book.
6) SPINOFF
Morning-line chances: 15/1
Trainer: Todd Pletcher
Jockey: Javier Castellano
Record: 5 begins (2-1-1)
Earnings: $260,000
This colt encountered a wide and dreadful journey in his most recent outing, finishing 18th of 19 runners in the Kentucky Derby. However he had been previously off the plank in four starts, and you can probably draw a line through his Derby due to the cluttered surface. There’s surely talent , but he’ll need a milder set to shine.
7) SIR WINSTON
Morning-line chances: 12/1
Trainer: Mark Casse
Jockey: Joel Rosario
Record: 9 starts (2-1-1)
Earnings: $161,773
Last excursion proved to be a fantastic runner-up finish to International Campaign in the Peter Pan Stakes at Belmont last month. But he lost his previous three races with a combined 28 spans and has not struck the winner’s circle in his four races this year. Not liking his chances.
8) INTREPID HEART
Morning-line chances: 10/1
Trainer: Todd Pletcher
Jockey: John Velazquez
Record: 3 starts (2-0-1)
Earnings: $140,400
Lightly raced colt enters the Belmont in the third-place end from the Peter Pan. He stumbled at the start in that race and finished six lengths off the winner. He’s had only two previous starts and won them both. Not a lot to go on, but his freshness bodes well here and that he sports blinkers for the first time. Not impossible.
9) WAR OF WILL
Morning-line odds: 2/1
Trainer: Mark Casse
Jockey: Tyler Gaffalione
Record: 10 begins (4-1-1)
Earnings: $1,491,569
Colt looks to obtain control of the three-year-old male branch after a powerful win in the Preakness and a rough trip in the Kentucky Derby, where he finished eighth after being bothered. He is the only horse that will have competed in all three legs of the Triple Crown races, and when he’s not too exhausted or banged up, he will be a real handful Saturday. Major contender.
10) TACITUS
Morning-line chances: 9/5
Trainer: Bill Mott
Jockey: Jose Ortiz
Record: 5 begins (3-0-1)
Earnings: $953,000
Made a great run in the Kentucky Derby after beating some early traffic issues and finished fourth, only 2 3/4 lengths behind Maximum Security. There’s no doubt he is a tough guy, and it has shown the capability to overcome trouble. Tacitus is in very fine form and sports the pedigree to delight in the 1 1/2-mile space. The one to beat.
2019 Belmont Stakes picks
No. 10 TACITUS, 9/5 chances. Blend and dangerous.
No. 9 WAR OF WILL, 2/1. Sounds rather serious.
No. 4 TAX, 15/1. Long shot using a shot.
No. 3 MASTER FENCER, 8/1. Can grab a slice.
No. 8 INTREPID HEART, 10/1. Fresh horse including blinkers.
