Chris Eubank Jr tells Sky Sports about devoting his time to get big-name fights, peaking in a’perfect’ era, also visualising herself as the world’s best.
Eubank Jr may declare that despite enrolling the very best win on his slate far 2019 has not gone to plan. Back at a O2 Arena at London in February, Eubank Jr – despite conceding expertise and dimension – out-hustled a match James DeGale to capture the win of his career.
Boxing’s studious jury, a very harsh bunch, had reserved decision on Eubank’s progress following losses to Billy Joe Saunders at 2014, also George Groves in the start of last year, but the win over DeGale provided Eubank Jr using a prized platform, ready forced to build on.
Fast forward seven months along with Eubank, still very much the pugilist, can admit that success over DeGale was intended to be the start of a 2019 that would see him add further wins and enhance his profile. Since committing DeGale the next reduction of his career, and the final one as he murdered in the immediate aftermath, Eubank has waited patiently for his chance.
“I can not offer you an exact date but expect to see me in the ring about two to three weeks,” shown Eubank Jr into Sky Sports. “The plan for this year was three struggles and it doesn’t seem like that is likely to be the situation today. I didn’t intend to have a 2019, although that does not mean that anything has changed with regard to me where I need to be.
“The win over DeGale felt gratifying for many reasons as it demonstrated what I have known all along. There was many who had any doubts over me regarding my position in this game, but I have always believed in myself and that’s how it’s always been.”
Because making his bow in 20, the unwavering spirit of eubank Jr has been a trademark of the Brighton fighter. Gradually guided by his dad, another boxer with an admirable spirit, Eubank Jr’s willpower in winninglosing efforts, has been recorded. With a few doubts concerning his ceiling created evident heading in the DeGale showdown, the 29-year-old claims it is a trait which won’t ever leave him and his lack of stunt was instilled in him since the early age.
“If people understood what I have forfeited then they would understand why I put so much into every struggle. It has been my life for so long as I could remember as well as usually means that there can not be no other manner. I’ve been hungry for success throughout my career and that hunger is with me today.
“I see myself as the best fighter in the world and that’s because I must. There can’t be any other way. I can’t go into a fight with the other names which are about my own weight, who want the exact same as me, and not believe that I am better than them”
On his future, Eubank Jr is adamant that he is appealed to by just the grandest stages. “I am probably as close to my summit as I am ever likely to be, therefore the next stage of my career is where I need to really step up and make my mark from the greatest fights.
“These next couple of years is the place, I believe, people are going to observe the best version of me. I’m peaking at the ideal time for the very best titles out there and folks will see that when the big fights are made.”
