When there’s not a horse that has won the first two legs in Churchill Downs and Pimlico, the atmosphere simply isn’t the same in Belmont Park. The last two horses to come in with a chance to win the Triple Crown have delivered the goods with Justify last year and American Pharoah at 2015. When American Pharoah won, he was the first two accomplish the feat since Affirmed in 1978. It snapped a streak of 13 straight times that the winner of the Derby and Preakness failed to win at the final leg.
This year that buzz will not be there, as Kentucky Derby winner, Country House, did not even race at the Preakness Stakes.
