Ten Sovereigns could miss Haydock

Ten Sovereigns could sidestep Saturday’s Sprint Cup at Haydock Due to Their Floor.

Aidan O’Brien’s colt belatedly delivered to his claim that was juvenile with a prominent display at the July Cup after becoming a beaten favorite in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket and the Commonwealth Cup in Royal Ascot.
The No Nay Never colt could finish only sixth when a favourite to followup at the Nunthorpe in York last month, but seemed set to go back to six furlongs in the Group One feature on Merseyside of the weekend.
But, speaking at a press event at his yard on Wednesday afternoon, O’Brien said:”I’d say we wouldn’t run on soft earth. There’s that isn’t good and rain prediction.
“He’s a real quick floor daisy cutter. If he does not run, Fairyland might run. That’s what we’re thinking right now.”
Reflecting on his below-par performance behind the brilliant Battaash in the Nunthorpe, the coach added:”He had been at the stalls a very long time, it was very hot and Ryan (Moore) said he felt lethargic when the stalls started. You endure once you’re currently running against Battaash if you’re lethargic.
“It just happened so quick. He did blow after the race. Five furlongs, as you probably know, is an art. You can have each of the pace and ability in the world but it is a skill of hitting those slopes and you’ve got to have feet.”
O’Brien went on to reveal Sovereigns could bring the curtain down in his racing career in Australia.
“The Everest is at Sydney and I think two thirds of this time that the ground was soft there. When it’s soft he won’t run there, however, he could return to Melbourne, where he might get better earth,” stated that the Ballydoyle handler.
“You’ll find a couple of sprints down in Melbourne. I would not believe he will remain in training next year.”
